The IFT Committees on Diversity and Careers Development jointly sponsor this forum. The Institute of Food Technologists is committed to the concept that diversity in society and in the workplace is positive and necessary to the long-term development and growth of its members. Furthermore, IFT recognizes the need to identify programs that will help young food professionals to fully embrace the concept of diversity as it relates to advancing their careers and the development of a productive work environment. The objective of the Diversity in the Workplace forum is to identify issues that are encountered by food professionals, including those from underrepresented groups, and how these affect their overall professional experiences. The forum will also identify programs that could be implemented by IFT to support its members in a diverse work environment. Four speakers will give presentations and participate in a panel discussion on various aspects of diversity issues in the workplace. Following this, each speaker will chair one break out session. The breakout sessions will formulate, discuss and compile actionable recommendations to support diversity issues in the workplace that will be presented to the IFT Executive Committee for consideration
