Session 19: Room N-115 | |||
Tuesday PMHOT TOPICS: Keeping the food industry competitive: Expanding margins, not waistlines | |||
| The dramatic increase in the incidence of overweight and obesity is arguably the most serious public health issue of our time. The food industry is targeted as contributing to this epidemic by trial lawyers, consumer advocates, and some members of the public health community for creating an environment where food is ambrosial, affordable and available. As consumers become increasingly focused on weight management, this will enable (and perhaps obligate) food companies to dedicate resources to finding solutions that will benefit consumers, the public health community, and the bottom line. This session will examine such a scenario from the perspectives of Wall Street, the consumer, and the marketplace. Case histories of products that provide weight management solutions also will be discussed. | |||
