P. M. COOK, Eastman Chemical Co., PO Box 1974, Kingsport, TN 37662 Sustane SAIB MCT is the newest member of Eastman’s line of beverage weighting agents. It is a blend of sucrose acetate isobutyrate and medium chain triglycerides. Because of its taste neutrality at the maximum allowable usage level and stability to air oxidation and hydrolysis, Sustane SAIB MCT is expected to become the preferred choice of approved beverage weighting agents today. The addition of MCT to Sustane SAIB FG reduces the viscosity of the SAIB so that it is readily pourable at room temperature. Other benefits bestowed include enhancement of cloud stability and compatibility with nearly all flavoring oils. This presentation will summarize the results of recent beverage and emulsion studies which support its expected acceptance as the preferred weighting agent throughout the beverage industry.
