The Land O’Lakes International Development Division, IDD (http://www.idd.landolakes.com) has for over 15 years helped promote the self-sufficiency and economic well-being of international agribusiness communities. Drawing from Land O’Lakes 80 years of experience in the technological and business aspects of agriculture and food processing, IDD’s commitment to enhancing global prosperity and empowering communities is illustrated through its involvement in projects in over 32 countries. IDD seeks to provide U.S. and overseas training to international agribusiness professionals, while simultaneously fostering international experience within the IDD infrastructure.

This talk will provide an overview of IDD’s multifaceted role in several international projects funded by USAID and other sources. These projects include: the Albanian Livestock Service Center project that includes dairy extension training to rural women; the Participatory Agricultural Project in the dairy and meat industry in Azerbaijan; improving the shrimp industry in Bangladesh; assisting minority refugees in Bosnia develop their rural dairy industry; developing agribusiness Cooperatives in Eastern Europe, the near East, Africa and Latin America; Farmer to Farmer programs in Jamaica, Mexico, South Africa and Nigeria; Natural Resource Management in Guinea; the Dairy Enterprise Initiative in Honduras and Central America that includes a Milk Nutrition Program; Livestock Industry Program in Macedonia for value-added quality foods; Dairy Development programs in Malawi, Nicaragua, Kenya, Uganda and Zambia; School Feeding programs (in conjunction with USDA) in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam; and supporting rural economic growth through Dairy Development in the West Bank.

These programs are successful due to the efforts of IDD professionals, consultants, as well as targeted entrepreneurs in project sites. Much can be learned from a discussion of IDD experiences gleaned in all areas of these collaborative programs - that will serve as an educational resource on evolving international outreach and extension programs - from the Industry perspective.
