H. LAREW, Science & Education Resource Development, USDA-Cooperative State Research, Education & Extension Service, International Programs, 1400 Independence Ave. S.W., MS 2203, Washington, DC 20250-2203 This talk will review lessons learned from an important collaborative USDA-led agricultural development program in Armenia. With help from experts at American land-grant unversities, USDA provides "can-do" assistance in a comprehensive way that enhances Armenian food technology through improved food safety and quality. USDA has been providing this kind of assistance in Armenia for more than 10 years. So, what happens when USDA is no longer around to assist? We are challenging ourselves to provide assistance today in a way that enables Armenia's agricultural sector to carry on tomorrow. Such an important transition is not easy. In fact, in making it, we are learning as much about ourselves as about our Armenian colleagues.
