The five steps to organic certification |

CAROE, Quality Assurance Int'l., 12526 High Bluff Dr., Ste. 300, San Diego, CA 92130 The USDA final organic rule requires that all products that state the word "organic" on the front panel must be certified by a USDA-accredited third-party certifier. This presentation will discuss the five steps to organic certification: 1)Application, 2) Inspection/Audit, 3)Review, 4) Resolution, 5)Certification. Specific issues and concerns for growers, processors, handlers, distributors and retailers will be covered. In addition, the USDA accreditation process will be described as well as international issues related to reciprocity in the global commerce of organic foods and ingredients.
