Dosimetry as it relates to E-beam irradiation |
K. E. NANKE, SureBeam Corp., 2650 Murray St., Sioux City, IA 51111 There is a growing interest in the use of E-beam technology as a critical control point for microbial pathogens in meat and meat products and other food stuffs. To ensure that the products are receving the appropriate e-beam and X-ray doses in a uniform manner, it is important for accurate dosimetry and dose-mapping measurements. Since the distribution of dose is dependant on a variety of factors such as product shape, product density, and packaging material characteristics these variables have to be taken into consideration prior to developing an e-beam irradiation plan. This talk will focus on the technical aspects of dosimetry and dose-mapping so that the audience will better understand the these principles
Session 5, E-Beam technology: Where are we in terms of the science?
