Integrated process control and management |
G. L. WEAVER, Grain Processing Group, ConAgra Foods, 9 Conagra Dr., PO Box 3500, MS CIG-315, Omaha, NE 68102-0500 This paper discusses the process control and management issues, infrastructure requirements and challenges in the commodity grain-processing segment of the food supply chain. This will review the technology approaches required to close the gap between compliance and performance and produce the desired outcomes. We can not manage the process effectively if we cannot measure and analyze it.The primary process monitoring for the grain operation is provided by laboratory testing. Effective process management requires that this information is available throughout the division and our supply on a timely basis with the minimum of effort. We have focused on the combination of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System ) and quality analysis and reporting software enabled for both corporate networks and Intranet as the technological backbone for process analysis and management. With this we have achieved virtual forward and backward integration of information with the supply chain. Examples will be given to demonstrate improvement by understanding the causes of variation.
