Kid's have great taste!: An update to sensory work with kids

B. URBICK, Consumer Knowledge Centre/KidsLink Research Ltd., Middlesex House, 25-45 High St., Edgware, Middlesex, HA8 7UJ, United Kingdom

Kids have a powerful influence in the food and beverage marketplace. Some estimate that kids’’ influence will, in the US, be $300 billion in 2001, 60% of this spending will be on foods and beverages. This is an important market to know and understand, particularly when the future market is considered. Bryan’s presentation will be in three parts: A) A very brief overview of the kids’ market –– reasons why it is important to understand this sector. B) What makes today’s kids ‘‘tick’’? –– about cognitive ability and development, the major and underlying drivers of kids, and the factors that influence kids with particular regard to sensory testing with kids. C) New ways of working with kids to better involve them in the food and beverage development process. Specific ways to work with multi-sensory testing and learn from them in more creative ways than traditional product testing. Bryan will include several video clips to highlight points. These are not only enlightening, but entertaining as well.
